Monday 28th November 2011. A date that will forever be the most precious in the world to me. We went for our scan as usual. Docs decided that the time had come. It was time to get her out, and see what she could do. The placenta was no good at all now, and she was showing signs of distress. I was scheduled for a c section the next day, but when they tried to monitor her heartbeat, it kept dropping. Docs weren't overally concerned, but I was. I had 'a feeling.' I begged the consultant to deliver her now. Thankfully, he listened to me, for which I will always remember him. All systems go, whisked down to theatre, about 20 people in the room! But I didn't care, I just wanted my baby out safely, to have a shot at life. There was lots of activity, we didn't hear a cry or anything. No one even checked the sex, so busy were they trying to save the baby. About 25 mins or so later, the neonatal team eventually told us that we had a little girl, but she was poorly. 'Yes, I know,' I thought. 'But she's alive.' I had achieved my goal. My goal that had been my sole focus for the last few weeks. She was here. Amelia Bella Le Hegarat was born.
