our 20 week scan

We approached this date with some trepidation. We lost our first daughter, Bella at 19 weeks. Everything was fine, except Amelia was measuring small on the growth chart. We tried not to worry, as neither Paul, nor I are giants! We got told to come back for a more detailed doppler scan. We attended this on 1/11/11. It was bad news. The scan showed that the placenta was not working properly, the flow through it had very high resistance. It was suspected that this had caused the death of our first daughter. We were told there was nothing we could do, just had to wait for nature to take it's course. We came out of that scan room utterly devastated. I can't adequetly describe the despair that we both felt. Why did this keep happening? Why did my body keep letting my babies down? I was on blood thinners, and we had been told it was unlikely to happen again. Apparantly our case was very 'unusual'. We left the hospital in tears.
